Fr. Patrick died unexpectedly, yet peacefully, in his nearby apartment on April 22, shortly after returning from a spiritual retreat during the Triduum and Easter Sunday celebrations. After making his monastic profession at St. Anselm’s in 1949, Brother, or Father after 1958 ordination, Patrick taught for several years in our high school, then called Priory, and began teaching theology at Catholic University of America in 1962. His field was ecclesiology, about which he authored many articles and books. He retired from the University in 2008. His brother, Fr. David, died in 2010 from injuries in an auto accident they were both in. After recovery from both the physical and emotional suffering that caused him, Fr. Patrick continued his interest in new theological and ecclesial perspectives, especially with the election of Pope Francis. We last saw him at our St. Benedict Day celebrations on March 21. May he rest in peace, united again with his brother David in the ‘apartment with a view’ Jesus prepared for them.
