The Thomas Merton Society of Washington invited Sr. Monica Weis, SSJ, as guest speaker for their semi-annual lecture held at the Reid Theater of St. Anselm’s Abbey School. Her topic was ‘The Landscape of Prayer: Thomas Merton’s Interaction with Nature,’ in which she shared her insights into his experiences and thoughts on our relation to nature and our responsibility for its protection.
Sr. Weis has published recently two books related to her topic, Thomas Merton’s Gethsemani: Landscapes of Paradise and The Environmental Vision of Thomas Merton. She is presently a Board Member of the International Thomas Merton Society and has been in the past its Vice-President. Her presentation and responses in the Q. and A. period were well received by the many who attended and who had a chance to continue the conversation in the reception that followed.
