Shawn Harrington, 33 years old, from Detroit, Michigan, started a walk across America in Salisbury, Maryland, several days ago. He got a ride across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge (one cannot walk across on normal traffic days) and stopped here for two nights. This morning to set out for the C&O canal trail to continue his walk pushing/pulling his cartload into western Maryland and West Virginia. He says that when his construction job came to an end in Detroit, he decided to do this walk to push himself beyond his comfort zone, to meet new people and test his own perseverance in meeting the goal he set for himself. It is a kind of spiritual journey also as he contemplates along the way what he discovers about himself and about all kinds of people.
