October 27, 2011

On Thursday, October 27, Fr. Christopher and Bro. Dunstan participated in a FOCUS 11 event to promote vocation awareness in fifth graders, typically at the age of 11 years. The Abbey shared a display table with the Benedictine Sisters of Emmanuel Monastery in Towson. The day’s program included songs with miming, skits, a rock band from Calvert Hall, a Liturgy of the Word service lead by Auxiliary Bishop Romansky, question and answer panels and other activities. About 650 children, teachers and some principals from nineteen parochial schools in the Baltimore Diocese participated. The students were divided into three groups for rotating sessions of brown bag lunch (on the floor), panel and game activities.

The event was planned and orchestrated by members of Region IV of NRVC (National Religious Vocation Conference) of which Fr. Christopher is an active member. The members were pleased with quite a few positive comments from participants at the end of the day’s activities, and may seek to offer it again next year.
