Six men who live locally and a guest from Erie, Pennsylvania, discerning a vocation to consecrated life, attended the first of our fall series of Saturday Evenings With The Monks today. The afternoon began with a talk on Praying the Psalms given by Fr. Joseph Jensen, retired professor of Old Testament studies from Catholic University of America. Attendees were invited to stay on to join the monks for meditation, vespers, Marian litany/procession, informal supper, evening prayer (Compline) and shared lectio on the Sunday readings. It is encouraging to see that serious Catholic men are open to Jesus’ call to follow him in the universal Christian vocation in a more radical way. Those who are interested in knowing more about the Benedictine charism and tradition by participation need first contact the Vocation Director to see if places are available for upcoming Saturday Evenings with the Monks.
