Fr. Lawrence Freeman, OSB, Director of World Community of Christian Meditation (WCCM), visited St. Anselm’s on this, its monthly Oblate day. After the Sunday Mass, Fr. Lawrence was able to give a talk to the oblates and others on the life of Fr. John Main, OSB, and how he found a new – yet old – way of meditation based on Far Eastern religious practices. It was so helpful to his prayer life that he wanted to share it with others. Fr. John began to give talks about it, then wrote books, and helped establish a community that practiced it together. After Fr. John’s death, Fr. Lawrence, a monk of Christ Our Savior Olivetan Monastery in Turvey, Bedfordshire, and long time friend of Fr. John, took up the torch so that now this method of meditation is known and practiced worldwide.
