At the community Sunday Mass, Abbot James and the monks, family and friends, witnessed the promises of Br. Isaiah (David) Lord and Br. Samuel (Padraic) Springuel to continue for three years living their commitment to the monastic way of life.
In the wording of the profession they promised “before God and His saints” the three virtues of Stability, Conversatio Morum, and Obedience that St. Benedict specifies in Chapter 58 of the Rule, ‘The Procedure for Receiving Brothers.’ Each novice read aloud his handwritten document, after which he and Abbot James and Prior Michael signed it at the altar. The documents were then placed under the corporal cloth on the altar as a memorial that by living the monastic way of life the newly professed were uniting themselves with Jesus in his passion so as to share in his promise of resurrection.
The Mass was followed by a reception in the Ft. Augustus Room to congratulate Brothers Isaiah and Samuel, also for all the monks to share with family, oblates and friends the joyful and thankful spirit of the occasion.
