At the conventual Mass on this solemnity, six novice oblates made their profession in the presence of Abbot James, the monastic community, the oblate choir and other oblates gathered for the monthly meeting. After reading their profession, each one signed their document and placed it under the corporal on the altar for the Mass. After distribution of a Benedictine medal to each, the choir and oblates sang the Suscipe me, Domine verses from Psalm 118 (119) that are specified for monks’ professions in the Rule, Chapter 58. There was a reception afterwards in the Fort Augustus meeting room where the newly professed could be congratulated and welcomed into our Benedictine ‘extended family’.
